The title track of Islands is a melancholic trance that outlines a mood of unattainable tranquility. Sung by new bassist Boz Burrell, it’s a strikingly patient and uncluttered ballad, and one of Crimson’s most delicate moments. Elsewhere, the band seeks to provoke the senses, not least with the spiky, lurching groove of “Ladies of the Road,” which sounds like The Beatles attempting Bitches Brew. Robert Fripp’s sonic ingenuity continues to blossom on “Sailor’s Tale,” in which his sustained guitar notes melt into a small symphony of glassy groans.

Has nobody really left a comment about the track 'islands'? It is so profoundly moving I feel like crying every time I listen to it.It builds and builds over 6 minutes, though it clocks in at over 9 minutes.
OTANO
Yes. I remember buying the EG vinyl in 87 used at Finest Records in Greeley CO, and "Island" melted me. Still does. The EG vinyl distorts at the end where the 30th Ann. CD doesn't. I'm used to the distortion though; it just feels better.
Zan
Its fantastic. But Im more interested in hearing comparisons between this and the reissue.

There is also a small mistake in the lyrics for the first line in the 4 verse. It is written "sun shine down", but he sings "star(s) shine down".
Hellstaff
Highly under rated King Crimson LP in my opinion. I think the opening track is fantastic, the way its drifts off into a heavy string melody. All around a classic I think.
Kuve
I second that. Hyper-dynamic, melodic and innovative in so many ways! And a very interesting recording audiophilically, even more so for its flaws (like the 16KHz noise on the trumpet solo at the end of the last track, or the light 50 Hz hum in the intro of The Letters). Overall, almost academically sounding record. And yes, oh the melodies! And some of Sinfield's best lyrics! I love it.
