The Rollers were formerly known as "Bay City Rollers".

Elevator is a 1979 rock album by the Bay City Rollers. Having replaced longtime lead singer Les McKeown with Duncan Faure, the group shortened their name to simply The Rollers, and pursued a more rocking, power-pop sound than their previous work. The album, released by Arista, was critically acclaimed but poorly received commercially. Neither the album itself or any single releases would hit the charts. The album was reissued on CD in 2008, with no bonus cuts however. The end was nigh as the Bay City Rollers prepared to record Elevator in 1979 indeed, many people might have believed they had already come and gone. Les McKeown was out, replaced by the unknown Duncan Faure, and Arista, the band's label for five years, had lost interest long ago. If it hadn't been for a slight contretemps over the LP's sleeve design - the Rollers chose a picture of a pill, the label replaced it with a mellow band shot - Elevator might have passed without even drawing the puns that its title invited. After Les McKeown's unfortunate bust in Japan in 1978, Bay City Rollers left him in the dust to search for a new voice for the band. Enter one Duncan Faure, South African poster boy and former member of Trevor Rabin's Rabbitt. In retrospect, some question whether this was a bad career move. While sales figures would certainly indicate so, Faure's writing and vocal talent DID lend a bit of credibility to the band The Rollers recorded three albums in a grasp towards artistic legitimacy between 1978 and 1981. Elevator was their first album to feature new vocalist Duncan Faure and includes the single 'Turn on Your Radio'. In a desire to move away from the teen-pop image, the band shortened their name to the Rollers and recorded this album which is closer in spirit to great PopNew Wave albums from the Records and Shoes than their other releases.
