Make Believe is the fifth studio album by American rock band Weezer, released on May 10, 2005 by Geffen Records. The album was considered to be a return to some of the emotionally vulnerable lyrics of Weezer's previous releases, and due to the strength of the hit single Beverly Hills, the album was a commercial success. In addition, Beverly Hills also gained Weezer's first Grammy nomination for Best Rock Song. Album 2005 12 Songs. Make Believe. Rock Believe is Weezers fifth studio album, released on May 10, 2005. The album arrived three years after the band's previous album, Maladroit. s Stephen Thomas Erlewine described the song as a return to musical, emotional bloodletting, adding It may be a spiritual cousin to Pinkerton, yet it's far removed from the raw, nervy immediacy of that album. The album was a commercial success, with Beverly Hills and Perfect Situation ranking as among the band's most popular singles to. Weezer - Make Believe full album HQ. Mariano Quevedo. Make Believe Weezer album. Make Believe is Weezers fifth studio album. After nearly two years of composing and recording demos, official recording finally began in December 2003. However, the album was not released until May 10, 2005, exactly eleven years after their original self-titled album was released. Stylistically, Make Believe is quite different from prior albums. The songs showcase a much more personal side from the harsher Maladroit and the Green Album. This personal side reflects sophomore album Pinkertons main pull, leading many critics to consider Make Believe a more polished version of Pinkerton. As a Rolling Stone cover story on newsstands the week before the release of Make Believe made clear, Weezer leader Rivers Cuomo is an odd, ornery sort. He's a genuine rock & roll maverick, at once attracted and repelled by his star status, disappearing for long stretches at a time, often to return to college. He writes and records far more songs than whatever winds up on a final Weezer record, which are often whittled down to just 30 or 40 minutes, leaving untold numbers of songs in the vaults. Every song on Make Believe follows a very strict formula. Don't let happy verses enter any song. It'll ruin the effect of the album in general. There are 2 saving graces in the album that make it bearable. 1 is the apology we fans deserve, Pardon Me. Pardon Me does follow the strict code of ethics I mentioned earlier, but it does have the gift of melody. It starts off nice and soft, but it's crisp vocals, a welcome change, make the song actually very good. It is piano driven in the verses, which makes you believe the emo self depreciating lyrics this time. It has an easy solo, but it's gentle and not at all terrible. Also in the chorus, instead of busting down your ears, it slowly grows. Sometimes an album is just awful. Make Believe is one of those albums. Weezer have been given a lot of breaks in their second era- both The Green Album and Maladroit were cut miles of slack despite consisting of little more than slightly above-average power-pop. The obvious reason for this lenience has to do with the mean age of rock critics, and the fact that most of these mid-20s scribes were at their absolute peak for bias-forming melodrama when The Blue Album and Pinkerton were released
